When you can’t remember how to walk like an Egyptian.
Go big or go home must’ve been the mantra of Ramesses II, also known as Ramesses the Great. This colossal limestone likeness measures 10 meters in length. The number of wives he had? 50 (or as my guide put it, one for each week of the year and 2 weeks of peace and quiet). Number of years he ruled? 67. Age at which he died? 90, utterly unheard of in ancient times. Here he’s shown, like many pharaonic statues, with his left leg forward, as the left side is the heart side. Thus, he’s leading with the heart and putting his best foot forward.
#amoviajar #egito #memphis #saqqara #saqqarapyramid #egypt
