The superbly camouflaged Moritz’s Leaf-tailed Gecko (Saltuarius moritzi) from the Copeland Tops region of NSW. These beautiful geckos mimic their surroundings perfectly, both in colour, pattern and texture. They sit undetected at night on the trunks of trees and rock walls in the forests, and wait for potential prey to come within pouncing range. At around 10cm long they are large enough to overpower most spiders and insects they encounter. I was extremly pleased to photograph this species on a recent trip to NSW, they are such stunning geckos!
